night. the president said that the same mitt romney didn't show up at the debate as showed up in the republican primaries. he was running away from his $5 trillion tax cut plan for millionaires and billionaires but we know the facts. the middle class and seniors would have to pay for the tax cut. he talked about replacing the affordable care act but he didn't say with what. he said he would cover people with pre-existing conditions. what he left out is if you have a pre-existing condition and aren't covered right now or between jobs, you're not going to be covered under mitt romney. we'll spend the next several days making clear what positions mitt romney misled the american people on. >> jennifer: so there is an opportunity there sure for that because mitt romney and we're cataloging these lies here inside "the war room" tonight as well to let everybody know. but there was at least a sense from the great supporters of president obama, there was a sense of deflation. it was good to see that the president was out

decisive i think that pretty much any other debate than any of us here can remember. i thought gov. romney did a fabulous job on both the relative basis. comparing mitt romney with performances that we usually see, quite fabulous. on a nominal basis, he did very, very well. i think it is true to say president obama is a superior or turk. i think mitt romney is a better debater. romney, you know, we saw something that we had not seen in a long time. it occurred to me that this reminded me more of the mitt romney i met in 1994 when he was running for the senate and came by and met with me and was incredibly an impressive and analytical and fact driven and pragmatic. this was that guy, not so much the person who had been pretending to be an ideologue for the past few years. obama seemed to be like a team sitting on a lead. i would not have said smog it, i would have just said somebody who did not seem to be terribly hungry for it. -- i would not say smug, just somebody that was not hungry for it. i did not really big in these examples after, i do not particularly care for them. -- these insta

fired up and really calling mitt romney on what he saw smas of his inconsistencies during the debate. the problem is 67 million-plus people watched that debate. that was really the place where he needed to call mitt romney out. i guarantee you not that many people saw his comments from yesterday. even close to the dab. >> nowhere near that amount. brianna keilar. let me ask you a quick question about the jobs numbers. we are expecting those at 8:30. it might be the most watched job numbers before the election, i would guess. >> that's right. we are watching them and remember they also come out that friday before the election. so we will be watching that as well. this is number two and then number one will be right before the election. we are not expecting this to be good for president obama. these aren't expected to be great jobs numbers. it is unclear how good they would be for mitt romney if they are significantly worse than expected, then obviously that's going to play to mitt romney's favor. the obama campaign, as they said all along, soledad, don't look at the individual number.

for a while, and she got great at the debates last summer, then mitt romney in the florida debate, where he obliterated newt gingrich. he got so much credit, that the romney camp let him go. we're going to talk to him, not to push romney or attack the president, whatever, but basically give us a lesson on how you debate and to take a look at clips almost like game tape for the redskins, and say here's where a guy did something good, here's where somebody did something bad and explain what he would tell one of his clients about how you debate. >> it's so important, because for everybody watching, they really got a more clear idea about who these gentlemen are, fair or not fair, i don't know. we're going to leave that up to you to decide. but i must say, that's interesting background, because i think mitt romney came out very strong. i think everybody does agree with that in that debate. >> i'll give you one subtle example, allison, when obama was talking, and they've always got to figure they're on a split screen, because they don't know when the networks will take a split screen, always loo

't figure out what mr. romney so eloquently said in that debate. talking about politics of the 1% or the 47%, conservatives want the best for all folks, and yes, we mean thewe don't want them trapped in poverty. we want them married, paying their taxes -- host: we will get katrina vanden heuvel's response. guest: yeah. listen, if marriage will promote the well-being of the couple, children, great. but in my mind, it is and not just that. that is too simplistic. it is part of the equation. without good jobs, without ensuring that workers have rights and a time -- at the time when big business is so powerful, without doing small things that happened around this country but have taken too much effort, giving women, families early child care, the sense of a community coming together to lift up families, marriages not sufficient. to reduce it to that is too simplistic. no one is saying marriage isn't important. it is not the only a factor in building a family that is doing well. the fact that jobs to date are low-paying is a terrible problem, and i would link this to the poverty issue. we have a
